12 weeks old today

I can't believe Hudson's 12 weeks old today!! We had lunch with mimi and mawmaw Jean at Stevie B's to celebrate. Hudson sat in his bumbo seat today and looked like such a big boy. I have very mixed emotions about my sweet baby growing up - on one hand I want him to stay little forever and on the other I'm excited about watching him grow and develop physically, mentally, and spiritually.

As a teacher I always tried to begin each lesson with the "end in mind."  One day my tiny baby boy will be a grown man with a family of his own. What are the character traits I want him to possess? What Biblical truths do I want written on his heart? I want to parent each day with the "end in mind" - the day that Hudson will leave home and take with him everything we've instilled in him. I know Micah and I won't be perfect parents, but I am striving to be intentional in the way we teach and train Hudson. I have the next 6,485 to impact my child for the kingdom of God.

Play Date

Hudson had his first real play date today with his friends Charlie & Foster. Melissa, Jennifer, Nicole, Virginia & I hung out by the pool and chatted while the older boys played and Hudson slept. Great day with dear sorority sisters and their sweet babies!!

Hudson's Dedication

Today was a very special day for our family...our precious baby Hudson was formally dedicated to the Lord in a ceremony at our church, Bellevue Baptist. We enjoyed visiting with our family and friends at a reception prior to the dedication. I was so worried that Hudson was spit up all over his dedication outfit, but he didn't spit up the whole night until after the dedication was over! If you know Hudson, you know that's remarkable and an answer to prayer!!

The verse we have chosen to pray over Hudson is Numbers 6: 24-26 "The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;  the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” This blessing has special meaning for Micah and me as it was the closing prayer at our wedding.

May Micah and I aways strive to point Hudson to Jesus! My heart's desire is for Hudson to come to a saving faith in Jesus at a young age and follow him faithfully all the days of his life.

2 month checkup

We took Hudson for his 2 month checkup and shots this morning. He now weighs 13.2 lbs and is 23.5 inches long! He did great with his shots and only cried for a little bit. In fact, he smiled the whole time he was getting an oral vaccine! Micah called to check on us during the exam and we put him on speaker phone so he could hear Nurse Tracy's explanation of Hudson's shot schedule and what to expect for the next 24 hours.

I expressed concern about Hudson's projectile vomiting after he eats and the fact that he doesn't ever seem to keep much milk down. Dr. Yukon explained that Hudson could have a condition called pyloric stenosis that would have to be surgically corrected. By the end of our visit, we were set up for an ultrasound later in the afternoon. Even though I was terrified at the possibility of my little Hudson having surgery, I was so thankful that our wonderful pediatrician was being proactive!

Mom, mamaw, Hudson, and I met Melissa and Charlie for lunch at McAlister's before the ultrasound. We had such a fun time and Charlie and Hudson were coincidentally wearing the same shorts! These shorts were a gift to Hudson from Melissa before he was born and Charlie has a matching pair. Melissa is such a dear friend and had already researched pyloric stenosis and was able to reassure me that this condition is highly treatable. My mommy heart was scared and hurting, but lunch with Melissa and Charlie made things easier! The Lord  had definitely blessed me with some wonderful friends:)

Hudson wasn't to eat for 3 hours prior to the ultrasound and he just happened to be starving when we arrived at the Diagnostic Imagining Center.  The receptionists told me when we checked in that the pediatric radiologist just happened to be on call today and I immediately knew God had planned that out for us! As we were waiting to be called back, we met a sweet lady who happened to be from the same small town my grandmother is from in MS. She and my grandmother knew a lot of the same people and this lady's aunt was my grandmother's 11 grade English teacher - small world.

Hudson may have been a trooper during his shots earlier this morning, but no such luck for the ultrasound. He screamed the whole time! The ultrasound tech was very kind and tried her best to comfort him. My mom held his arms and I held his legs and we tried to keep him as still as possible. It broke my heart to listen to him scream even though I knew the ultrasound wasn't causing him any pain. I think he was just hungry, cold, sore, and tired ~ That would be be enough to send me over the edge too! After the ultrasound, the pediatric radiologists met with us and preformed another ultrasound on Hudson to check his liver and spleen. He told us that everything looked normal and that Hudson DID NOT have pyloric stenosis!! This was the news we were praying for!! The final diagnosis for the day was acid reflux. We're now on Enfamil AR to help with the spitting up.

Micah's playing church league softball for Bellevue and his first game was tonight. Hudson wasn't running a fever and seemed to be feeling ok, so we packed up and headed for the ball field since the weather was so nice! Their team lost, but it was a fun night nonetheless.

Even though today was very stressful and scary, I had a peace the whole time that God was in control and that He would take care of Hudson (and me too)!

Hudson Rolled Over

Big news...Hudson rolled over tonight! He was having "tummy time" while I ran his bath water and he rolled over on his back! He's getting bigger and bigger each day and will be 10 weeks old on Monday. He moved up to a size 2 diaper this week, and I was secretly sad that my sweet little baby is growing so fast. Hudson has slept from 10:00 pm until 5:00 or 5:30 am for about 4 nights in a row! He wakes up, eats and goes back to sleep until around 8:00 am.  Micah and I are seriously hoping this becomes the norm!

1 month

Our sweet baby boy is 1 month old today! Time sure flies as it seems like he's been here only a few days. The past month has been wonderful, yet tiring as Hudson only sleeps for 2-3 hours at a time. My heart is overflowing with love for this little one and I thank God every day for this blessing He has entrusted to us.
